Seconds Sale - Raktajino inspired mug DS9, Star Trek - available now
Large hand made porcelain ceramic mugs inspired by the Raktajino mugs in Star Trek Deep Space Nine. These are all seconds in that they have slight glaze or colour defects, but are fully functional - see the photos for details of the defect. The ones with crazing on the inside are food safe as they are made of porcelain fired to vitrification, so completely non-absorbent, though they may stain in the crazes - some people actually try to get this effect, but if it worried you then choose one without crazing.
The process goes: mould designed with CAD, 3D resin printed, silicone casing cast from the 3D print, plaster mould cast in the silicone and finally porcelain cast in the plaster mould. The design and mould making process alone took 6 months to perfect, and there are still some refinements I would like to make.
The mugs hold approximately 500ml (18oz), and keep your drink warm for longer as they are narrower at the top. Please note that they are not a direct copy or replica of the original ones in Star Trek, they have been recreated from the ground up using pictures and so the measurements are not quite the same.
